Allison is described as approachable, empathetic, and compassionate. She is passionate about creating a welcoming safe space for clients, as she understands how difficult taking the first steps are in an individual's therapeutic journey. She approaches therapy through a humanistic and strength-based lens, and is passionate about working together with her clients to develop coping skills and tools to assist them with daily struggles. She believes creating a strong therapeutic partnership by getting to know each unique client is essential to create effective coping skills and hope for the future.
Allison is completing her Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University (Honours). She also completed a Bachelor of Education from Queen's University and a Bachelor of Arts (honours) from Trent University.
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, Allison taught middle school and high school for fourteen years. She is a mother of two and understands the challenges associated with balancing a career while parenting. She is passionate about supporting those struggling with postpartum issues, parental struggles, ADHD management, teen mental health, gender identity and LGBTQIA2S+ struggles, anxiety, burnout, depression, emotional regulation, life transitions, and trauma.
Allison creates a supportive, safe, welcoming atmosphere where individuals can share their experiences, identify and build upon their strengths, and be supported in working towards and attaining their therapy goals in order to live authentically. Her approach is grounded in the humanistic perspective which emphasises empathy, acceptance and working with an individual's unique strengths. Allison draws from Cognitive behavioural therapy, Solutions-Focused therapy, Attachment & Trauma theory and Narrative therapy.
