Melanie utilizes an integrative and client-centered approach that tends to pull from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-focused Therapy (SFT), Strength-Based Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Attachment Theory, Systems Theory, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy (NT).

Meet Melanie:

Melanie believes that therapy should feel less clinical and prioritizes responding to the unique needs of her clients. She finds that all clients come with their own strengths and wisdoms and emphasizes fostering a safe, non-judgemental, trusting space for deeper exploration at a pace that feels comfortable. Melanie feels passionate about empowering clients in navigating their thoughts, challenges, emotions, resources, values, trauma, fears, hopes and relationships.

Melanie knows that it takes courage to start therapy and doesn't take being invited into her clients lives lightly. Melanie is continuously moved by the human capacity for growth and resiliency in her practice. Whatever you bring to sessions, Melanie looks forward to working through it together.

Melanie's clients have described her as compassionate, warm, open-minded and having a good sense of humour.

In 2022, Melanie was selected by a unique training hub located in Calgary, Alberta where she collaborated with a multidisciplinary team comprised of psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and medical residents to provide a unique approach to single-session therapy. During this time, Melanie had the privilege of supporting individuals, children, couples and families amongst diverse communities in navigating trauma, systemic issues, substance use, suicidality, mental illness, domestic violence and parenting.

Melanie holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA Hons.,) Comprehensive Psychology degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Master of Counselling degree specializing in Counselling Psychology from Athabasca University.
